Pastor Williams,
Is there a distinction/difference between fornication and adultery? What constitutes fornication and what constitutes adultery?
Yes there is a difference in the two words. The following verse uses both words to show the distinct difference.
Mt 5:32
But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.
The word for fornication in the Greek is porneio. It refers to any illicit sexual acts, such as, homosexuality, premarital sex, bestiality, etc.
The word for adultery is mochaio and refers to having sexual relations with another person’s spouse. Adultery can be included under fornication, since it is an illicit sexual act. Adultery is the specific act while fornication is the general classification for all illicit sexual acts.
To better understand the above verse we must understand the Jewish courtship and wedding in Biblical times. Before a man was married he was betrothed to his bride as Mary, the mother of Jesus, was betrothed to Joseph. The betrothal period was similar to our engagement period. However, in order to break a betrothal you had to get a divorce.
You were considered married when the couple consummated the relationship with sexual intercourse. This is what Matthew 25:1-12 is about. You switch from being the bridegroom to the husband and bride to the wife after the couple seals the marriage with the sex act.
Therefore if there were any sexual relations by the bride before the marriage was consummated, the bridegroom could divorce the bride. It was not considered adultery because they were not married, only betrothed. Since it was not a marriage, it was considered fornication.
However, once the couple is married it is considered adultery. Only married people can commit adultery. Also, adultery does not end with you divorcing a person. Consider the next verse. If you marry someone that is divorced you also commit adultery.
Mt 19:9
And I say unto you *, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.
Father God created sex as a means of pro-creation of life and as a beautiful, intimate union (oneness) between a man and his wife. Satan, per his usual, has perverted sexuality into acts of deviant behaviors. There are more “unmarried” people having sex than married couples. The act of homosexuality/lesbianism is an abomination according to the Word of God (Romans 1). AND, the idea of having sex with an animal is SO disgusting! Teenagers are calling themselves “technical virgins” because they are not having intercourse, only oral sex and “That doesn’t count.”
Bed-hopping, wife-swapping and pre-marital sex is being glamorized in the media. Multiple marriages with subsequent divorces are trivialized with as much conseqences as trading cars. Same sex couples are being allowed to adopt children and “re-orienting” their little minds into thinking it’s okay to have two mothers or two fathers.
Child pornography sites flood the internet. Pedephilia and the sale of children for sex is big business worldwide. What we hear about and read about in the news is only the tip of the iceberg. Corrupt police being “paid off” to look the other way by the prostitution rings and drug lords is also an international disgrace.
There was a time when the U.S. was highly thought of and enjoyed great favor and prestige among global leaders. We used to be the “moral standard” by which other nations strived to immulate. Now, we are the most despised nation on earth. We are no longer the richest nation in the world. Our population growth is no longer from within our borders (thanks to abortion), but from illegal immigration.
The United States considers itself a Christian nation, yet, there are more people who openingly admit a belief in God while at the same time acknowledge that He does not govern their lives or influence their choices/decisions. HOWEVER; when trials, tribulations, troubles and dire situations occur, even the most obstinate atheist will cry out to God for devine intervention.
What say you, my brothers and sisters ?
KB,
Continue to cry out for righteousness. There are brothers and sisters that are in agreement with you. The worldly system has them to keep silent and that their relationship is a private matter with God. It is through boldness like yours that others become bold.
As God told Elijah, there are seven thousand that have not bowed their knees to Baal. Just as Elijah thought he was alone in serving the Lord, sometimes we too can feel alone. But we are not alone. Christ Jesus our Lord said he would never leave us or forsake us. He also said that He had other sheep that were not of this (Jewish) fold.
Isaiah the prophet said “cry loud spare not lift up your voice like a trumpet in Zion, show my people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sin. Woe to the believers that does not cry out and warn his brother, sister or enemy about their sins. Because God through His Son Christ Jesus has filled us with His Spirit and given us the assurance that we have eternal life abiding on the inside, we will cry loud and spare not. If through our crying out other souls are saved, praises be to God. We will cry out and proclaim the Kingdom of God and not the kingdom of man.
Pastor Williams,
I heard the last minutes of a message a few weeks ago about GOD’s Amen and man’s Amen. I did’nt hear the entire message, so I’d like to hear your comments. I never thought about the difference before.
Thanks
Amen means that you affirm or agree with a statement. Christ Jesus is called the Amen in the following verse because He is the Word of God. The literally spoken Word that became flesh. God being who He is cannot deny anything that He has said. Therefore Christ Jesus affirms everything that the Heavenly Father says. This is why He is called the Amen. This is the instance whereby a person may say that this is God’s Amen.
Man’s Amen is simply man agreeing witb what has been said.
Re 3:14
And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
2Ti 2:13
If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot * deny himself.
Your thoughts on mega churches, one Pastor who is the pastor of more than one church – ” One church in three locations.”
The word Poimen is translated as Pastor(s) only once in the New Testament. Every other instance is translated as Shepherd. Every time the King James Version translates this word as Shepherd it refers to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
The one time it is not translated as Shepherd is in Ephesians 4:11 where it is translated as Pastors.
When the church was very young they would elect Bishops. This term is more appropriate for the situation you stated. A Bishop was elected by the elders. The Bishop would be responsible for leading a number of elders and churches.
If you are truly a Bishop/Shepherd/Pastor you must know your sheep. John 10:15 says that the Good Shepherd knows His Sheep. I would find it very difficult for a church with thousands of members in numerous locations knowing each person.
He would be better at calling himself a Bishop and giving guidance to the pastors under him. Read the following verses.
Joh 10:2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
Joh 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Joh 10:12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
Joh 10:14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
Joh 10:16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
